Tigers are one of the biggest guest magnets in Planet Zoo 2. People will walk across the whole zoo to see them, and when the tigers have cubs, visitor numbers go up again. Sumatran tigers want warmth, a swimming hole, a proper den and something to climb.
Habitat size and barrier
- A 1,700 m² habitat was comfortably enough for a pair.
- Barrier: about 5 m of concrete, with glass viewing panels.
- Add a staff gate and a staff path so keepers can get in.
Temperature
Sumatran tigers like 18–33 °C. On a cool or mountain map, place a habitat heater in the habitat. The heater automatically targets a temperature inside the species' range (mine set itself to 30 °C). Keep heaters above any water.
What the habitat needs
- Swimming hole connected to a water pump. Tigers love water.
- Coarse sand, wetland sediment and wild grass for the floor.
- Shelter: a den, a bed structure or a tiger house.
- Tropical trees, ferns and climbers.
- Something to climb. A climbable structure (the "palace" style climbing frames look great) gives them height to show off.
Enrichment
- Rib feeder
- Back scratcher
- Toys and food-based enrichment from the welfare tab
With all of that in place, my tigers sat at 100% happiness.
Breeding
Tigers breed well in a good habitat. When a female is expecting, expect a visitor boost once the cubs arrive. Plan where the cubs will go when they grow up: release groups, another habitat, or the trade centre.
Marketing
Once your tigers are in, run a marketing campaign for them. They're one of the best draws in the game, so the campaign pays for itself quickly. Stop the campaign after a while to save money.
Tips
- Lay out a viewing area with several angles: a glass window at ground level, an elevated platform and a view across the water.
- A tiger temple theme with ruins and waterfalls is a classic for a reason.
